The chancel

St Botolph’s is a liberal, inclusive church. We are part of the City of London Deanery, in the Two Cities area of the Diocese of London. We are Church of England, a member of the Anglican Communion.

For us, God’s love for all meant that Jesus Christ, his Son, came to earth to include the excluded and to preach the good news for all. This is summed up in the Sermon on the Mount, which can be found in Matthew’s Gospel chapter 5

‘Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
‘Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
‘Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
‘Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
‘Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
‘Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
‘Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

We believe that rigorous theological reflection helps us to find a faith which is lively and engaged.

Inclusion

As Jesus was friends with all people and sought out those who were excluded from society, so we believe that all are welcome and beloved as children of God. We are an inclusive congregation, seeking to welcome and embrace everyone.

Social Action

The gospel imperative of good news for all drives us to consider how we might make a better and fairer life for all. St Botolph’s is committed to working towards and campaigning for social justice.
